New Beetle Next Generation

New Beetle Next Generation

The Volkswagen Official explain that the next generation of the New Beetle will be available next year, it  will be focused more on the dynamics rather than on retro style. The serial version of the new Beetle will be showed at the Motor Los Angeles Show in November 2010, and its sales will begin in May 2011 both in the U.S. and Europe.

A little later will appear convertible version of the compact first, Like today’s version the new will also be assembled in VW’s factory in Puebla, Mexico, together with the VW Jetta. Both cars will be on a common platform and will have a number of other common parts and engines. The new platform will give the Beetle a wider track and longer wheelbase than today’s model. This will result in better dynamics and better road holding of the second generation Beetle.

The design of the car will have to do with a concept from 2005 called Ragste, basic design will continue to recall the original Volkswagen Beetle, round headlights and tail lights. Suspension will be MacPherson front and rear torsion. The wider track and longer wheelbase will increase the space and the interior volume, but relatively low roof will again create problems for the heads of higher passenger. Luggage storage will be increased to 250 liters.

The engine of New Beetle will be powered by gasoline and diesel engine that is base on gasoline will be 1.2 liters with 105 hp power, after 1.4 with power 160 hp, while the top will be two-liters unit with 210 hp power. Only for the U.S. version there will be a five-cylinder and 2.5 liters volume, which will power 170 hp. Among the diesel engines we will see a volume of 1.6 liters and 105 hp output and two-liters with 140 hp power. At a later stage we will see a hybrid version of a system as shown in Detroit in January Jetta CC – gas turbine engine compressor power with 150 hp and volume of 1.4 liters and an electric motor with output of 27 hp

Barbie Beetle

HERNDON, Virginia — Barbie now has her choice of at least two rides as she celebrates her 50th anniversary this week. Volkswagen of America has rolled out a customized dolled up with pink paint, rhinestones and a motorized vanity in the trunk. Last week, Fiat and Mattel presented a shocking pink Fiat 500 in honor of Barbie's golden anniversary New Beetle convertible

VW put its Malibu Barbie New Beetle on display at the Malibu Dream House, a real-life home decked out for Barbie's birthday. The house includes a chandelier made of her hair.

The Barbie New Beetle convertible gets a white leather interior and convertible top, hand-stitched floor mats and pink quilted leather door pockets and arm rests. "Even the dipstick is painted to resemble her favorite lipstick," VW of America said in a statement.

Car customizers including ABD Racing Werks, Katzkin Leather and Interiors and FoamMolders worked their magic on the Barbie New Beetle.

It's perhaps fitting that a German automaker decided to roll out a Barbie-themed vehicle.

According to the new book by Robin Gerber, Barbie and Ruth: The Story of the World's Most Famous Doll and the Woman Who Created Her, Barbie may have some German roots. The book says that Barbie's creator, Ruth Handler, noticed that her daughter, Barbara, was "fascinated with a buxom doll that Gerber said was based on a female German cartoon character, named Lilli, who used sex to get what she wanted." Handler took the doll back to the U.S. and insisted that Mattel designers use it for inspiration.

New Beetle mania

New Beetle Mania

The Volkswagen New Beetle has been well loved in the U.S. since its launch in 1998, but like any car that has been on the market nearly unchanged for over a decade, the Bug is starting to get a little long in the tooth. But the wait for a new model will likely be worth it for Bug-lovers as the next-gen car will likely spawn two models.

The next Beetle is expected to hit our shores in 2010 or 2011, and will ride on the same platform as the next-generation Golf – due out in 2010. That model would be similar to size to the current car, and will offer a hybrid drivetrain.

To slot in below that car, Motor Trend says that VW is also considering building a smaller version of the Bug based on the up! citycar platform. Its styling would be unmistakably Beetle and could even include a rear-engine layout – a throwback to the original car.

If VW decides to green light a second Beetle model, it would essentially create a sub-brand for VW — similar to Toyota's Scion – and could spawn even more models in the future.

Volkswagen México celebrates 10years New Beetle

Volkswagen Mexico celebrates

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, opened the ceremony on the 3th of February, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Volkswagen New Beetle in the presence of the President of Mexico, Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, and guests from politics and industry.

At the same time, more than 300 distinguished guests in Puebla also celebrated the production of the seven millionth Volkswagen in Mexico, which is at the same time the world's one millionth New Beetle.

The New Beetle was launched on the market ten years ago in January 1998. The vehicle is still exclusively built in Mexico for markets all over the world.

Otto Lindner, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen de México, welcomed the guests. He underlined that the New Beetle was the first vehicle to be manufactured in Mexico for export worldwide. "Thanks to the success of the New Beetle, all models produced in Puebla today are exported from Mexico to over 100 countries.

" In his speech at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Winterkorn underscored his confidence in the Mexican location. He confirmed that Volkswagen would be investing approximately one billion US$ in Mexico over the next three years for Jetta production and capacity optimization at the Puebla plant. "As our only production location in North America to date, Puebla plays a key role in our growth strategy for North America. Volkswagen de México and the Mexican supplier industry are certain to benefit from this."

Prof. Dr. Winterkorn was delighted with the celebrations in Puebla: "The New Beetle has done a good job. 10 years and one million cars after production start-up it is still an important member of the Volkswagen family. We will be continuing this success story with the next generation of the New Beetle."

VW confident about succes New Beetle"

Succes of the New Beetle

The Volkswagen New Beetle was first thrust upon the world in 1998. Its release was an immediate success and thus spawned an insurgence of retro inspiration in automotive design.

However, after 10 years on the market the novelty of the bug's cutesy styling and flower holder have begun to wear off. While some rendered speculations of what a Beetle update might look like have not struck a chord, it is hopeful that VW has been holding back on dropping any hints about the future direction of its iconic vehicle. With recent comments, Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn has further added to the mystic surrounding the impending Beetle successor.

During a celebration at VW's plant in Puebla, Mexico, he called the planned replacement attractive. The comment is not much to go by though, as those who have most vehemently adored the Beetle's design have also held rather unique perspectives. On the other hand, Winterkorn added that he is certain the next generation New Beetle will be a continued success.

At least for now, it is almost certain the vehicle will be a success for Mexico, since most likely the Puebla plant will be outfitted for its production.

New Beetle 2008 review

New Beetle Review 2008

source ; www.autochannel.com

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

It's hard to believe that 2008 will be the 11th year on sale for the Volkswagen New Beetle. When the car was originally introduced, Americans went crazy over the retro-themed "Bug" styling and cute flower vase protruding from its dash. Its popularity has waned over the years, however, even as interesting variants like the Turbo and TDI direct-injection diesel models came and went. For 2008, the New Beetle's oh-so-cool veneer has worn thin as it faces strong competition from more modern rivals.

Despite its age, the basic 2008 Volkswagen New Beetle still has a few things going for it. Based on the old VW Golf platform and available as a coupe or convertible, it still elicits smiles from passers-by while delivering solid German engineering, comfortable road manners and a fair amount of room for those up front. All the basics are covered in its standard price, and you can easily upgrade the Beetle's content through trim packages and stand-alone options.

But compared to newer rivals in a very competitive compact segment, the 2008 Volkswagen New Beetle claims no major advantage aside from its bubbly personality. Other small two-door coupes or hatches like the Honda Civic, Saturn Astra or VW's own Rabbit deliver superior utility, amenities and drivability at a similar or lower cost. As a convertible, the New Beetle makes a little more sense, as it likely will appeal to shoppers who value style over performance. But overall, we suggest taking a look at the competition first or even considering a certified-used New Beetle as an alternative

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options

The 2008 Volkswagen New Beetle is available as a two-door hatchback coupe or convertible in two trim levels: S and SE. Base S coupe models come with 16-inch alloy wheels, air-conditioning, heated outside mirrors, power windows and locks, cruise control, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, remote keyless entry, V-Tex leatherette seat trim, satellite radio and a CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input jack. Upgrading to the SE nets you 17-inch alloys, heated front seats and windshield washer nozzles, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a premium audio system and a sunroof. Some of these features can be added to the S trim as options. New Beetle convertibles are similarly equipped, with the exception of a manually operated soft top on S models and a semiautomatic power drop top and wind blocker on SEs. All models can be equipped with a trunk-mounted six-disc CD changer.

Powertrains and Performance

The VW New Beetle is powered by a 2.5-liter inline five-cylinder engine that produces 150 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels through an easy-shifting standard five-speed manual gearbox on S models. A six-speed automatic with manual shift control is standard on the SE and optional on the S. However the shifting occurs, acceleration is merely adequate. EPA-estimated fuel economy is similarly lackluster for a compact; 2008 EPA estimates for the automatic are 20 mpg city/29 mpg highway.

All New Beetles include antilock disc brakes, stability control, front seat-mounted head/thorax side-impact airbags and active front head restraints. Convertibles also feature a rollover protection system. In government crash testing, the 2008 Volkswagen New Beetle earned four out of five stars for the protection of both front occupants in frontal impacts. Side-impact testing netted a five-star rating for front passengers but only three stars for those in the rear. The independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the New Beetle a top score of "Good" for frontal-offset crash protection, but a disappointing "Poor" rating for side impacts.

Interior Design and Special Features

The four-passenger New Beetle may be stylish, but it's smaller inside than VW's own Rabbit. An expansive dashboard featuring a huge circular speedometer seems to dominate the cabin space up front, while the car's bubbly body pinches inward tightly against rear occupants. The open convertible is less of a problem in this regard, with a top that's easy to fold and well insulated from outside noise. With its top lowered, the Beetle convertible makes an especially classic and polished statement. Outward visibility is surprisingly poor on both the coupe and closed convertible, however, and both New Beetle styles suffer from tight rear hiproom and a lack of useful cargo space.

Driving Impressions

Like other Volkswagens, the 2008 New Beetle is reasonably fun to drive and provides a smooth and comfortable ride, perfect for long trips. The suspension tuning is soft but the steering is direct and sure, making it just about right for most drivers who want to play with their Bug every now and then. The 2.5-liter engine is smooth and delivers adequate if not abundant power in most situations.
